In vacuum state melting of metals via electromagnetic induction heating is called vacuum induction smelting. The principal structure of vacuum furnaces includes furnace body, crucible, induction coil, vacuum system, smelting power supply and control system, the smelting power supply is medium-frequency AC power, which frequency is selected dependent on properties of metals and smelting quantity.
The vacuum induction smelting can realize refining. Impurities are removed, decomposed, floated and evaporated via chemical reaction in smelting process. When metals are melted to the ideal pure state, they are generally cast into model through preheated funnel.
The vacuum induction furnaces are in general used to manufacture superalloys, stainless steel, composite magnet alloys and other important high-grade alloys.
